Team Full Swing Season Summary

Posted: October 11, 2017

While the 2016-2017 regular season had an overabundance of exciting storylines, it was mainly defined by one word, youth. This year, players in their 20s captured 26 titles, the most since 1970. Seventeen of those titles were won by players 25 years or younger – also a record in that period. While some of the most recognizable names in golf from the past decade have entered the back nine of their careers, plenty of talented young players have been ready to grab the baton and run.

Chief among those is world no. 2, and Full Swing Team Member, Jordan Spieth. The 23-year-old Texan enjoyed another strong year, recording 12 Top 10 finishes and winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, The Travelers Championship, and The Open Championship. Upon winning the 2017 Open Championship, and being named 2017 Champion Golfer of the Year, Spieth moved one major victory away from being the sixth player to win the career grand slam. During the 2016-2017 season, Spieth ranked no. 2 in shots gained tee to green and no. 1 in shots gained approach to green, marking a major improvement from the previous year in his ball striking statistics. While it can’t be confirmed or denied, we like to think Jordan’s off course work on his S8 Full Swing simulator contributed to his impressive 2017 season.

In addition to Spieth, Full Swing Team ambassador Jason Day also enjoyed a successful season with 5 Top 10 finishes. In a season battling back injuries, Day was ranked 5th on the Tour in Eagles, 6th in Birdie Average, and 24th in scoring average at 70.115. However, Day struggled with some aspects of his game that he has become known for, impressive driving and touch on the greens. This year on tour, he ranked 39th in shots gained putting, while also being ranked 172nd in driving accuracy (53.94{de84de6960f779f71d5af83acdf67524c70e1cf7aeec56644a18a9c7411a98d5}) and 139th in greens in regulation. At his best, Day’s remarkable length and accuracy off the tee, combined with the deft touch out of the sand and around the greens, has made him one of the best players in the world. After a strong finish to the season at the PGA Championship and FedEx Cup playoffs, recording Top 10 finishes in the seasons last major and at the Northern Trust and BMW Championships, Day should head into the 2017-2018 season with a renewed confidence in his game. Additionally, with the cold winters approaching in Ohio where Day lives full-time, his S8 Widescreen Full Swing simulator will be a great tool for his offseason training.

Though the youth crew has been a force, the 40 and above crowd have had their own success, including Full Swing Ambassador Jim Furyk. After a 2015-2016 season where he was sidelined for several months rehabbing from wrist surgery, Furyk returned to make 18 starts during the 2016-2017 season, recording 5 Top 35 finishes and ranking second on the tour in driving accuracy. With a driving accuracy of nearly 73{de84de6960f779f71d5af83acdf67524c70e1cf7aeec56644a18a9c7411a98d5}, it is clear Jim can spend his time on his S8 Full Swing simulator working on anything but his ability to hit it off the tee! While injuries forced Furyk to take some time off following the PGA Championship, he had the honor of being named an assistant captain for the President’s Cup. Having previously served as an assistant captain for the U.S. President’s Cup and Ryder Cup teams, Furyk’s continuity amongst the U.S. Team brain trust proved to be important for the comfort level of the U.S. teams’ players. This experience will be extremely valuable for Furyk as he has been selected to serve as the United States Ryder Cup Team Captain for the 42nd Ryder Cup, played in France in September 2018. From our Team at Full Swing Simulators, we would like to wish good luck to all of our FSG Team Members good luck as they work on improving their game as the 2018 season kicks off in Napa this week!
