How Much Space Do You Need to Build a KIT Golf Studio at Home?
Most golfers talk themselves out of a home golf simulator before they ever pick up a tape measure. The garage looks too narrow. The basement ceiling looks too low. It’s easier to assume the room won’t work than to find out it will.
It usually does. The space you need is less than you think, and the numbers are specific enough that you can settle this in about five minutes — one tape measure, one driver, done.
There are two ways to get there.
DIY it yourself. You run a Full Swing KIT and build your own . Most flexible, most measuring, and you’ll want to know exactly where every foot goes.

Option 1: Building Your Own Space
Ceiling height: take a swing!
Forget the chart. Take the clubs you actually want to practice with into the room and make full swings from where you’d be hitting. Can you swing them freely? You’re good. That’s the whole test — a 9-foot ceiling works fine for plenty of golfers, only your swing knows which one you are.
Width: about 10’ minimum
That’s enough for one golfer to work comfortably. If righties and lefties are both going to hit, the Full Swing KIT lets you easily adjust instead of needing extra space many don’t have.
Depth: 18 feet minimum, and here’s why
Depth is the one people underestimate, because it isn’t a single distance. It’s two zones, and you need both.
Ball to screen: 8 to 10 feet This is your ball flight. The KIT needs this distance in order to properly measure your ball and get you accurate ball flight data.
Ball to KIT: 8 to 10 feet The KIT is a radar unit. It sits behind the hitting position and needs a clear line to the ball — this is how it reads your shot, not spare padding behind you.
Add those together, leave a few inches so the screen isn’t flat against the wall, and you get your number: 18 feet of length, minimum.
