FULL SWING PARTNER JORDAN SPIETH TALKS TOURNAMENT PREPARATION BEFORE BIG U.S. OPEN WIN

jordan-spieth-golf-simulator

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – It was an epic finish to a whirlwind U.S. Open. Setting the stage was a new, challenging course traversing a steep hillside with deep grasses and sprawling bunkers. Throw in Jason Day with his determination to fight through vertigo, greens that looked and played like “heads of broccoli”, and a field of disgruntled TOUR Pros, and you have the makings of another dramatic U.S. Open.

It was on this stage that Jordan Spieth solidified his place in the history books at Chambers Bay, site of the 115th U.S. Open. He’s only the sixth golfer to ever win the first two tournaments of the Gland Slam and is also the youngest player to win the U.S. Open since 1923. After a difficult navigation of the par 3 17th, where he managed to double bogey, Jordan answered quickly with two brilliant shots to get onto the green and putt for a birdie on the final hole. Challenging as the course was, over the four days of competition, Jordan maintained a level headed resolve and finished as the reigning champion.

Just a week prior to his victory at the U.S. Open, Jordan took a moment to sit down with the Full Swing team at his house to explain how he uses the Full Swing golf simulator to prepare for his tournaments. Citing the ability to increase his repetitions, shape his shots better, and the ability to play whenever he wants, Jordan takes some time to demonstrate how he does this in an upcoming video. Keep checking fullswinggolf.com this week for his candid interview and demo of his home golf simulator.

The entire Full Swing team sends congratulations to Jordan Spieth on a very exciting week and a well-deserved win!

FULL SWING GOLF SIMULATOR FEATURED AT TIGER JAM 2015

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – A full Swing golf simulator was showcased at Tiger Jam 2015, as contributors to Tiger’s Foundation were treated to an exclusive VIP experience at MGM. The night was filled with fun activities including a silent auction, several open bars with craft cocktails, lounge areas, buffets, a speech on behalf of the foundation by Woods, and a special private performance by Ed Sheeran.

Participants from the evening reported back that Sheeran put on an amazing show, saying that concert goers relaxed and took in the poolside performance in an intimate setting.

Back in the giant event space, the Full Swing golf simulator was hard at work as both avid golfers and first timers tried their hand at the ever-popular closest to the pin contest. Competition got pretty hot, as more than a hundred participants shot at the 161 yard 17th hole at PGA National. The pin placement was tough, sitting on the front left corner of the green, but one person emerged victorious to win the grand prize – a golf flag autographed by the man himself, Tiger Woods.

GOLF SIMULATOR LEADER, FULL SWING GOLF, RETURNS TO SUMMER X GAMES

SAN DIEGO, CA –From bowling to pinball, new Clubhouse at Willow Valley offers fun for the whole family

Friday, October 17, 2014
By MARY BETH SCHWEIGERT | Lifestyle Staff

Elaine and Edward Eichner’s teenage grandsons love to sleep in — but that doesn’t happen when they visit their grandparents at Willow Valley Retirement Communities. There’s way too much to do.

“We usually end up playing tennis first, then pickleball,” Elaine Eichner says. “Or vice versa.”

Willow Valley’s new Clubhouse, an easy five-minute walk from the Eichners’ apartment in the Providence Park neighborhood, caters to residents’ guests of all ages, with a pool, restaurant, bowling alley and sports courts.

John G. Swanson, president of Willow Valley Living, says the Clubhouse aims to provide fun intergenerational activities for residents, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Intergenerational opportunities abound at local retirement communities. Pat and Ray Horn love to “share” their four young grandchildren with their neighbors at Masonic Village.

“Encouraging children to visit retirement communities is something that’s been done for a long time,” he says. “What we’ve done here is take it to a different level.”

The 30,000-square-foot, two-story Clubhouse, at Route 222 and Locust Lane in West Lampeter Township, opened in July, at an estimated cost of $5.69 million.

Racks in the six-lane bowling alley are filled with shoes from tiny toddler to adult sizes, and 7- to 15-pound balls in a rainbow of colors. The adjacent snack bar serves beer and wine, along with Carmen & David’s ice cream.

The vintage arcade features a mix of games from the 1950s to the 1980s, including pinball, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Skeeball. “Zoltar” predicts the future in a classic fortune-telling machine.

The arcade creates a fun role reversal for kids, who typically show their grandparents how to play the latest video games.

“This is the opportunity to turn that around and give residents the opportunity to show their grandkids the kinds of games they liked to play,” Swanson says.

Upstairs, the full-service Local Table restaurant offers a bar, private dining room, community table and outdoor seating. Visitors will find local craft beers, a card room and a rotating display of local artists’ work.

Outside, kids can activate water features in the zero-entry pool. The adjacent patio features a whirlpool spa and plenty of comfortable spots for visiting. The Clubhouse’s more active options include two Har-Tru tennis courts, a small fitness center and pickleball, badminton and volleyball courts.

Eichner, who moved to Willow Valley from the Poconos 3½ years ago, has played tennis since her high-school days. She meets up with other residents at the Clubhouse at least four days a week for tennis, pickleball or badminton games. She also taught her four grandchildren to play.

“I have an 8-year-old granddaughter who fell in love with pickleball,” she says. “She’s doing really well.”

There is no fee for Clubhouse activities, with the exception of food and beverage. Willow Valley shuttles run to and from the building and other areas of the campus.

Resident response to the Clubhouse has been overwhelmingly positive so far, Swanson says. He expects more retirement communities will open similar buildings in the near future.

“What could be better than grandkids wanting to visit their grandparents in a retirement community because there are so many things to do, not just sit in an apartment and behave themselves?” he says.

“They can come here and have fun things to do with their parents and grandparents.”

Willow Valley resident Jean Kahler, her two daughters, sons-in-law and four grandchildren ages 5 to 12 spent a recent Saturday afternoon at the bowling alley to celebrate grandson Andy’s 11th birthday.

“I think it’s an extra-special treat to have all this,” she says. “The kids all were really excited about it and wondered when they could come back again.”
They aren’t the only ones.

“My sons-in-law would love to come back on a daily basis so they could use the golf simulator,” Kahler says.

On the day of the party, it was booked solid.

COLORADO AVID GOLFER: ORIGINAL SIMS

Colorado Avid Golfer Magazine:
Original Sims
August 2014

There must be something in the water in Windsor—and as anyone who’s played Pelican Lakes Golf & Country Club knows, there is no shortage of the wet stuff in the community known as Water Valley.

Shortly after announcing Fred Funk would be designing his first course, RainDance, for Water Valley CEO Martin Lind (July 2014 issue), Pelican Lakes installed three state-of-the-art golf simulators inside its new sports grill, The Sand Bar. Members can now play rounds at 80 different courses. “There is nothing like this bar anywhere else in the state, or perhaps the nation,” says Lind. “People will be able to play Pebble Beach when it’s snowing outside, and that’s an amenity you can’t find anywhere else.”

The Sand Bar has named two of the simulators after Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. Those stand next to one another, while the Fred Funk machine occupies its own intimate room for private parties. In addition, The Sand Bar boasts 19 TVs, custom tables and booths and eight beers on tap, including the club’s very own beer, Pelican Lakes Lager. It pairs well with small pizzas and panini—fare you won’t find at the more upscale Pelican Lakes Restaurant upstairs. Nor will you find Sand Bar drink concoctions such as the Ty Webb and Tin Cup.

WHAT YOUR FEET ARE TELLING YOU ABOUT YOUR GOLF SWING

Swing Catalyst — What your feet are saying about your golf swing
By Jeffrey A. Rendall

(San Diego, CA) — Everyone knows you can learn a lot about your golf swing from video analysis, but whoever thought you could discover just as much by viewing your feet?
That’s at least part of the thinking behind Swing Catalyst, a revolutionary new technology that allows players to see how they shift their weight during a golf swing. There’s much more to Swing Catalyst than just weight analysis, but that’s a good place to start.

We saw Swing Catalyst while taking part in a demo of Full Swing Golf’s equally impressive simulators. Taken together, they present the ultimate approach to analyzing your golf swing – and having a little fun, too.
The Norway based Swing Catalyst also offers a simple way to keep in contact with your golf coach, through software and an app for your smartphone. Once you sign up, you’re only a few clicks away from the lesson that could help fix that ailing swing.

“With Swing Catalyst, we offer up to 4-camera synchronized video,” said Jeff Carr, National Sales Manager for Swing Catalyst, in explaining why his company’s products supplement what you can learn from a simulator.

Carr continues, “We also measure force and pressure throughout the swing. Adding the simulator brings the visual and ball tracking into our software.”

The focal point of the Swing Catalyst system is a sensor plate that you stand on when hitting balls in the simulator – or practically anywhere, including the golf range. The plate is a series of over 2000 tiny sensors that track exactly where the weight/pressure is being applied during a golf swing. It displays weight positions throughout the swing and where on each foot the pressure is applied (inside, outside, heel, toe of each foot).

“We also create a «Center of pressure trace» (COP) which is a pattern created individually by each golfer. We see trends in these patterns but there is NO perfect pattern. Each golfer has their own pattern and ideally these patterns should be very consistent,” Carr added.

In Swing Catalyst’s latest software version, they’re also able to show the COP of each foot, basically offering in-depth information about where on the foot the pressure is located. This is ideal for set-up, impact and finish positions.

The data screen displaying all this information looks kind of like what you’d see in a doctor’s office viewing an MRI test, with several shades of color representing different pressure points. You’ll certainly need a professional’s interpretation to understand what’s presented, but Swing Catalyst is geared towards people who are knowledgeable about the mechanics of the golf swing.

At least initially, according to Carr. “The sensor plate can be understood by anyone as soon as they know the basics of their swing. Because the plate is automatically synchronized with a video of the swing, you can see exactly where your pressure is during the entire swing. Consulting with a PGA instructor can only speed up the golfer’s process of getting better.”

One tool everyone can use right away is the digital set-up that Swing Catalyst offers, which includes an app, online portal and video analysis software. Carr says they bring all the functions together.

“Now a player can use their Iphone to record a swing and send it to their instructor. The instructor can then download it to their software, create an individual lesson with audio comments (and even compare swings with Justin Rose or Suzann Petersen, for example) and send it back to the golfer who can view it anytime in his or her phone.”

“The Swing Catalyst app and the online cloud are free for anyone to use. Ideally the golfer would have an instructor with a Swing Catalyst video platform to get the most out of the system — but they both work great on their own,” Carr added.

So you’re going to need a few things to make Swing Catalyst work for you. Any golfer with an Iphone/Ipad who is truly interested in getting better can use the app and cloud. The PC software platform is reasonably priced already, so many can afford it. The price will come down even further as more people use it.

The sensor plate is pricey, however. Meant for serious analysis of the golf swing, it’s primarily intended for golf instructors and training facilities. I can easily see it as part of a regular teaching program.

One concern we had about Swing Catalyst was availability… and, can anyone install the cameras and sensor plate?
Again, Carr calms the anxiety. “The software alone is used readily all over the country. Our Sensor plate system is making headways into the market, but is still limited in the amount of locations available.”

“The software is a simple install onto a PC, the plate runs off of USB and can either be mounted into a hitting mat or laid on the ground. A standard Swing Catalyst system includes 2 cameras, a sensor plate and a PC. It can be set up in minutes. Ideally it is stationary but we have many users on driving ranges that set up each morning without issues.”
Having never actually set up the system, we can’t speak to how easy it would be to do so. But it appears as though anyone who works regularly with a computer could probably do the work – and there’s no heavy lifting involved.

The benefits speak for themselves. Through the Swing Catalyst system I learned that my weight shift was pretty good, though I was releasing the club early and losing some power because of it.

It was enough information to take to the practice range – not bad for a brief demonstration. I’m confident that working regularly with your local professional and the online software would pay dividends. If your golf pro happens to have the sensor plate — even better.

“Swing Catalyst is becoming the choice of the best instructors and players in the world,” Carr concluded. “This is due to our ability to integrate the different technologies of Ball tracking (Trackman, FlightScope , Fullswing and Foresight), sensor plates and of course video from standard webcameras to extremely high speed cameras. Swing Catalyst is the best choice for improving your game.”

From what we’ve seen, it’s definitely worth further investigation.

GOLFBALLED.COM: FULL SWING GOLF SIMULATOR REVIEW

Last month the GolfBalled.com crew headed down to Carlsbad, CA for a little golf. With so many great golf destinations available in the area, we decided to play Pebble Beach. Wait, Pebble Beach?? Yes, you heard me right, Spyglass at Pebble Beach.

It was a tossup actually. The choices were endless. How about Bay Hill or Firestone? Pinehurst #2, St. Andrews Old Course or even Oakmont? These famous courses and many more are available to play or to practice on in the amazing simulators built by Full Swing Golf.

I know what some of you might be thinking. There is no way a simulator can replicate the real thing, and you are right, it can’t. But, here is the deal. You might not be outside, but you swing real clubs, you use a real ball. The courses are mapped out to a tee (no pun intended) and the ball flight is shown in real time on the screen. You can drive the ball off the tee, you can hit out of bunkers, hit off the fairway or rough, chip the ball on the green and even putt. After playing 18 holes on a Full Swing Golf Simulator, the question whether or not golf was real or not will get thrown out the door. It’s real alright. For me, and I am going to guess most of us trapped in an office all day, the best thing is that you can play the top courses in the world in under 1 hour! I dare you to try to do that at your local municipal let alone at Pebble.

The fact that you have the ability to track and analyze your swing, ball speed, club head speed, distance, spin, club path and so much more makes the experience in the Full Swing Golf Simulator even that much more real. To have the ability to view the reason why your shot was off makes it easier to understand and correct your swing.

I walked into Full Swing Golf not knowing what type of golfing experience I was going to have. Having hit on other “simulators” in the past, my expectations were not very high. But, like they say, once you hit that first perfect shot, you are hooked. For me, being able to watch my ball flight in real time thanks to their e6 live motion software enhanced my experience and made me feel like I was really on the course. The data collected from their ion2 tracking software about my swing was spot on and I felt I learned a lot about my swing that day.

Here is a little about Full Swing Golf and their Technology:
For more than 25 years, Full Swing Golf has dedicated itself to delivering the most innovative, high-quality, realistic and enjoyable golfing experience available on an indoor system. Featuring state of the art courses, ball tracking, and performance products, Full Swing Golf simulators drive results for your game. The Full Swing Golf simulators come in 2 different trims. The Sportsman is the smaller of the 2 and is only available in a 4:3 aspect ratio. The Champion series has 3 different options and comes in a 16:9 aspect ratio for 30% more viewing on screen.

Full Swing Golf uses a patented tracking system which consists of proprietary hardware which utilizes Light Speed Infrared Technology and Ion2 Vision Technology. The Ion2 Vision technology utilizes a single high-speed camera to focus solely on ball spin and club head data while the infrared technology focuses on the speed and trajectory of your shot.
